When the pandemic hit, there was a large emphasis on protecting mental health. Many companies saw how vital it was to show value in their employee’s well-being and prevent them from facing something most of us are very familiar with: burnout.
Fortunately, many companies took this new work-health balance in stride and implemented ways to help avoid exhaustion.
Recently, Nike headquarters in Oregon offered their team a week off to relieve stress and recover from the pressures of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Matt Marrazzo (senior manager of Nike’s Global Marketing) said: “In a year (or two) unlike any other, taking time to rest and recover is the key to performing well and maintaining sanity.”
LinkedIn also gave its employees a paid week off in April this year. The dating app, Bumble, also did the same in June. CitiGroup told employees that in March they would begin implementing “un-zoom Fridays”.
There has been a huge influx of gratitude from employees towards companies taking care of their well-being, especially in these stressful times. Companies need to constantly be aware of pandemic-related exhaustion and allow their employees mental health days.

Many agree that having a “burnout break” is very beneficial and the concept is rising in popularity. Burnout is categorized by feelings of exhaustion, lack of desire, and inability to work. Burnout can last a few days to months depending on how severe. Other side effects include insomnia, insecurity, and discouragement.
Due to the pandemic, employees around the globe have been facing periods of burnout for more than a year now.
In order to help employees recover from the stress of the pandemic, workers have to collaborate and look out for each other’s emotional health.
Companies valuing the health of their employees and preventing burnout have resulted in employees feeling more valued, leading to an increase in loyalty to the company.
